Agricultural sciences in the Gioenia Academy. Publications and members in the 200 years since the foundation
Abstract
On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the foundation of the Gioenia Academy, we conducted a census of publications related to agricultural sciences, as outlined in the Academy’s first statute. This project drew on the contributions of the Academy’s members and collaborators, following an initial effort led by Monterosso. Based on the titles of all publications identified, we selected those specifically addressing agriculture and agro-industry. The 200 publications were grouped into three periods: the first marked by the introduction of the course “Agriculture and Pastoralism” at the University of Catania, and the last by the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture. For each period, the publications were categorized according to the traditional disciplinary divisions of the former Faculty of Agriculture, and the differences across the three periods were briefly analyzed.
