Abstract

The significance of botanic gardens in the connection between biodiversity and cultural heritage conservation is discussed. Loss of plant species, due to the global and land use changes, pollution and alien species invasion, is strictly responsible of the lack of knowledge on their usages. This paper stresses as, in Italy, actions aimed to the conservation of spontaneous species and cultivated varieties and their usages could be organized by botanic gardens.
