Abstract

After a short mention of ex situ conservation of the plant diversity, the Author highlights the role which the Etnean Nuova Gussonea botanic garden plays to this end. Its localization, its wide and its organization allow an ex situ conservation of a particular significance. The ex situ conservation in this garden regards many species of the Etnean flora and particularly species which are: endemic, rare, threatened, phyto-geographically significant, etc. The Nuova Gussonea botanic garden is a very important area within the natural Park of Mt. Etna. It works in accordance with the European strategy of the plant conservation (2002-2007) and with the count-down 2010 global Strategy.
