Abstract

Aim of this paper is to provide a comprehensive overview of the consistency of the herbarium material relating to family Orchidaceae of Herbarium Tornabene, kept in the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences of Catania University. This is only a first contribution to the study of much larger collection, consisting of 11,148 samples of Sicilian flora, grouped in 124 families.The material examined includes 223 specimens (from number 2205 to number 2428). During the research it was decided to update the nomenclature and to consider, in addition to the composition (genus and species), the local provenance and the state of preservation.
