Role of the Regional Natural Park of Etna (Sicily) in the mitigation of desertification risk

Abstract
In this paper the Authors characterize the risk of desertification of the territories belonging to the Regional Natural Park of Etna. In the comparison between the two-periods under study, it is possible to verify a significant increase of the territories in lower sensitivity class, and a reset of those in the critical sensitivity class in the second half of the 20th century. Results showed that Land Management and the Quality of Vegetation are the most important positive factors affecting on the mitigation of desertification process.
